Duo could move for Lyon star Clement Grenier.
Newcastle United and Arsenal could go head-to-head in a January transfer battle for the signing of central midfielder Clement Grenier from French Ligue 1 high-flyers Olympique Lyonnais, report the Newcastle Chronicle, as both clubs consider reigniting their interest in the talented midfield player.

Grenier has been a crucial part of the Lyon side that are in wonderful form and are threatening to gatecrash the battle between Marseille and Paris Saint Germain at the top of the French top flight and will be keen to hang on to Grenier in January, although the club have proven themselves to be willing to sell their top talent in recent seasons.
The report suggests that Grenier has turned down a move to St. James’ Park in the past and that Newcastle could well have been interested again if an injury, which wrecked Grenier’s hopes of playing for France at the World Cup this summer, had not hit at just the wrong moment.
Arsenal are one of the clubs also namechecked by the article as potentially holding an interest in Grenier, with continental giants AS Roma, Fiorentina and Napoli all also being linked with Grenier – although Newcastle have a track record in tempting highly rated French players to the North East.
