The Red Devils are in need of defensive reinforcements after a difficult start to the season in that area of the pitch, with Louis van Gaal’s expensively assembled side leaking goals at the back.
Laporte has now emerged as one of the club’s main targets after his superb performances for Athletic in La Liga in recent times, with the 20-year-old fast becoming recognised as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe.
The Frenchman is tipped to be a star of the future and is already attracting strong interest from big clubs, with Arsenal and Chelsea also tracking him ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Still, United are ready to meet his expensive buy-out clause, with Louis van Gaal giving the green light for the club to invest heavily again after making some big-money signings during the summer as well.
Laporte looks a good investment for the future after showing so much tremendous potential, and it now looks possible that he could be heading for Old Trafford sooner rather than later.
