The 32 year old Spaniard’s current deal expires at the end of the season but a new one year deal will tie the former Everton man to the Emirates Stadium side until 2016.

Arteta has struggled with niggling injuries over the past couple of years and as such it is perhaps a surprise that Arsene Wenger would offer the player a new contract, especially considering when fully fit the Gunners skipper has hardly been a consistent performer.
