The German star has a buyout clause which means Dortmund would be powerless to stop him leaving if a club met the agreed fee. The clause doesn’t become active until this summer, and with a host of suitors including the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and domestic rivals Bayern Munich, Reus certainly wouldn’t be short of options.
Bierhoff believes that the Dortmund forward may stay with the club past this summer however, and furthermore that even if he does leave he would prefer a move abroad.
“I can still see him playing for Dortmund,” Bierhoff said.
“Dortmund is a guarantee for him.
“I know that Marco also has his heart in Dortmund. He knows what he’s got there and he treasures it too.
“Marco is the kind of person who needs to be in settled surroundings, but of course you do also get envious of your rivals when they are lifting the trophies.”
With Dortmund doing so terribly in the Bundesliga this season, it is highly likely that Reus is thinking his options through carefully.
His side are currently just outside the relegation zone, but they are however just one point off the bottom of the table.
With no chance of the title this season and European competition becoming more and more unlikely as the season goes on, Reus may begin to look elsewhere in search of trophies.
