Liverpool Skipper Steven Gerrard Could Become Latest Player To Make MLS Move

Toronto FC ready to offer Gerrard a deal at the end of the season.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could become the latest big name Premier League player and former England international to move to Major League Soccer, with the Express reporting that Toronto FC are interested in offering him a deal at the end of the season if Gerrard does not come to an agreement to extend his Anfield contract.

Despite the fact that he still appears to be an important part of manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Anfield, the Reds are yet to enter talks over extending Gerrard’s deal at the club and the midfielder has indicated that he has no intention of retiring and would move clubs at the end of the season if no agreement is reached.

Canadian side Toronto have already dabbled with a big name Premier League player in Jermain Defoe, but the former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth striker hasn’t made a big impact in the MLS and isn’t hugely popular with the club’s supporters, with Defoe expected to return to the Premier League in January, possibly with former manager Harry Redknapp at QPR.

This doesn’t appear to have deterred them, however, and Gerrard would represent a much higher calibre of capture for a club coming off the back of a frustrating season.
