Sir Alex Ferguson almost bought Rodriguez for a bargain £5m a few years ago, but the deal fell through for unknown reasons and the Colombian ended up joining Porto.
Instead United signed Portuguese forward Bebe for a fee in the region of £7m, a player notoriously brought to England without Ferguson even seeing him play.
Rodriguez has since moved on from Porto, first to AS Monaco and then to the European Champions Real Madrid for a whopping £63m.
There is obviously no telling what kind of player the World Cup star would have turned into had he made the move to the Premier League all those years ago, but given the choice between Bebe and the attacking midfielder it’s not hard to guess who most managers would choose.
