When asked by a fan today via his Facebook Q & A to name his perfect 5-a-side team, he didn’t pick any defenders, and probably more importantly – a goalkeeper either!
GK) Juan Mata
Without a goalkeeper, we presume that the Spanish playmaker is electing to put himself between the sticks – potentially in ‘fly-goalie’ mode!
Defence) Angel di Maria
The most defensive player in the side Mata chose is United’s £59.7m Argentine! At Real Madrid to be fair, di Maria was occasionally asked to put a shift in.
Midfield) Wayne Rooney
Mata had little choice but to put his club captain in the side, although Maroune Fellaini will clearly be fuming at the admission following his recent revival…
Midfield) Robin van Persie
The Dutchman would make a fairly unbelievable 5-a-side player, thanks to his ability to shift the ball quickly onto his left and shoot from almost anywhere.
Forward) Falcao
Falcao’s only bagged one for United so far, but he’s obviously impressed enough in training to warrant a place in Mata’s 5-a-side team.
