FIFA has unveiled the ten nominees competing for World Coach of the Year, with some surprising (and potentially unfair) candidates selected…

Here’s the shortlist in its entirety:

Carlo Ancelotti – Real Madrid

The legendary Italian boss won the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, and more than deserves his place in the list.

Joachim Loew – Germany

One of the favourites for the award, Loew brilliantly coached the wonderful Germany team to World Cup glory, with his substitute Mario Gotze scoring the winner in the final.

Diego Simeone – Atletico Madrid

The feisty Argentine brilliantly managed Atletico to La Liga glory, despite competing with the far richer and more highly regarded Barcelona and Real Madrid. An outstanding achievement.

Manuel Pellegrini – Manchester City

Pellegrini’s City outfit pipped Liverpool to Premier League glory, beating West Ham on the final day. The Sky Blues also won the League Cup in February.

Louis van Gaal – Holland/Manchester United

van Gaal coached the Dutch national side to third place at the World Cup, before taking over the reigns at Manchester United ahead of this season.

Pep Guardiola – Bayern Munich

Bayern waltzed to the Bundesliga title, but missed out on Champions League glory after receiving a semi-final hammering from Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho – Chelsea

Chelsea won nothing last season, and actually finished 3rd behind Liverpool, who played a brilliant attacking brand of football. How has Mourinho got the nod over Brendan Rodgers…?

Alejandro Sabella – Argentina

Sabella (with the help of his captain Lionel Messi) led the Argentines to the World Cup final, where they narrowly lost in injury time to Mario Gotze’s strike.

Antonio Conte – Juventus/Italy

Conte won Serie A with Juventus in 2013/14, before taking charge of the Italian national team.

Juergen Klinsmann – USA

Another surprise entrant on the list, Klinsmann’s USA team were knocked out of the World Cup by Belgium in the 2nd round.
