Who’s made the cut so far?
The Premier League is a quarter of the way through following this weekend’s round of matches, and the table is well and truly taking shape. West Ham and Southampton have performed well above expectations, and both currently sit in the top four. Jose Mourinho’s ominously good Chelsea outfit sit at the table’s summit though, and will take some serious shifting after their excellent start to the campaign.
Naturally, a number of their players make our Team of the Season so far, which also features Man United’s talented goalkeeper and Arsenal’s marquee summer signing.

Arsenal On Alert as £25m Barcelona Star Hands In Transfer Request
GK) David De Gea, Manchester United
David De Gea makes our side ahead of Thibaut Courtois courtesy of having had more to do than the Chelsea keeper. The Spaniard’s highlight of the season being the spectacular last minute save from Everton’s Bryan Oviedo, which helped United hold on to a 2-1 victory against the Toffees.
RB) Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea
The Serbian has been in great form this season, playing a key role in Chelsea’s back four. Because of his ability to combine defensive solidarity with consistent offensive runs down the right, we’ve selected him ahead of Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne, who has also played a key role in the Saints’ impressive start.
CB) Winston Reid, West Ham
The Hammers centre-back has been a key part of Sam Allardyce’s turnaround at the club this season. Even with more emphasis on attacking play, the New Zealander has been a rock at the back for Sam Allardyce.
CB) Gary Cahill, Chelsea
The second of three Chelsea players in this side, Cahill has been been his usual reliable self at the heart of Jose Mourinho’s defence. Alongside John Terry he has formed part of the second best back line in the league.
LB) Ryan Bertrand, Southampton
Chelsea loaned the Englishman to Southampton and the left-back has found a new lease of life at the South coast club, with manager Ronald Koeman even saying that he could stay permanently, the Daily Mail reported.
CM) Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea
Fabregas has been at his mercurial and creative best since completing a £27m move from Barcelona in the summer. He’s already registered eight assists, more than any other Premier league player to date.
LM) Dusan Tadic, Southampton
Another brilliant summer signing, Tadic has more than made up for Southampton’s sale of Adam Lallana over the summer months. Currently with seven assists in nine games, he’s playing some of the best football in the top flight.
RM) Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal
With Arsenal not quite hitting their stride yet, it has been down to the ex-Barcelona man to drag the Gunners up the table. With five goals and two assists in seven appearances, the Chilean has been by far and away Arsenal’s best player.
ST) Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
The Argentine has been a ray of hope for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season, with nine goals in nine appearances. Without him Manchester City may have already been facing an insurmountable effort to catch up with Chelsea.
ST) Diafra Sakho, West Ham
With a goal in every game he’s started in so far, Sakho has settled into life in the Premier League exceptionally. His partnership with fellow summer signing Enner Valencia has been a big reason why the Hammers have beaten Liverpool and West Ham already at Upton park.
ST) Diego Costa, Chelsea
Another who seems to have made the transition to the Premier League look easy, Diego Costa’s goals have catapulted Chelsea to the top of the league. The Spaniard has nine goals in just seven games, and if he stays fit then Mourinho’s men will be very difficult to overtake this term.
