Now that the latest round of Premier League fixtures has drawn to a close, save for the Monday night fixture between QPR and Aston Villa, CaughtOffside have selected our most impressive XI from the weekend’s fixtures:
GK) Eldin Jakupovic (Hull City)
Hull City had a goalkeeping crisis ahead of their Premier League visit to Liverpool, with Allan McGregor and Steve Harper both ruled out, but Steve Bruce needn’t have worried – Bosnian third choice Eldin Jakupovic was exceptional for the Tigers.
RB) Martin Kelly (Crystal Palace)
Former Liverpool right back Martin Kelly has been quietly excellent since signing for Crystal Palace in the summer and he played well once again in a 2-2 draw with West Brom this weekend.
CB) Curtis Davies (Hull City)
Hull did excellent to battle their way to a 0-0 draw without Michael Dawson and that was largely down to the impressive Davies, who is really fulfilling his long term potential at the KC Stadium.
CB) James Collins (West Ham United)
Was supposedly struggling with an injury and a doubt for the game with Manchester City, but West Ham’s Welshman put in an absolutely superb display at the heart of Sam Allardyce’s back four.
LB) Leighton Baines (Everton)
Provided a fine assist for Eto’o’s second goal, which proved to be the clincher, and was never troubled by Burnley’s attacks down his side. Looks to be back to his best.
RW) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
Sanchez has been one of few Arsenal players to start the season on top of their game and the Chilean continued his impressive displays as the Gunners won 2-0 at Sunderland, hitting the back of the net twice.
CM) Alex Song (West Ham United)
The signing of Song from Barcelona has proven to be an inspired one by Sam Allardyce, with the Cameroonian being at the heart of everything good about West Ham as they shocked Manchester City.
CM) Nemanja Matic (Chelsea)
Matic put in a wonderful display for Chelsea as they were denied at the death by Manchester United – the Serbian is perhaps the Blues’ most important player and deserved to be on the winning side.
LW) Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United)
Ameobi has rarely been an important player for Alan Pardew at Newcastle, but he changed the game as a half time substitute at Tottenham this afternoon, racing clear to put his side ahead just seconds after coming onto the pitch.
SC) Diafra Sakho (West Ham United)
Diafra Sakho equaled a Premier League record with his winning goal for West Ham against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, scoring in his sixth consecutive start, whilst also terrorising City with his pace and movement in the channels.
SC) Wilfried Bony (Swansea City)
Bony has started the season slowly and picked up a ridiculous red card against Southampton the other week, but the Ivorian has found some form and took his two goals against Leicester City with aplomb.
