Gunners frontman could’ve made Hull move.
Hull City manager Steve Bruce has revealed that he failed in an attempt to sign Danny Welbeck this summer before he joined today’s opponents Arsenal, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old was known to be available after falling down in the pecking order at Manchester United, and Bruce says that he made enquiries about the possibility of bringing him to the KC Stadium.
Still, the Tigers boss says that there were a number of top clubs after the England international, mentioning Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and several European clubs as being among them.
Welbeck has played for Bruce before, spending time on loan at Sunderland earlier in his career when the former Manchester United defender was in charge there, and it may have been a partnership that he was keen to revive again at Hull.
Speaking ahead of today’s trip to Arsenal, Bruce spoke fondly of Welbeck and his ability, backing him to succeed at Arsenal despite some doubts over the signing when it happened, as the £16m striker never truly broke into the starting lineup on a regular basis whilst on the books at Old Trafford.
“I’ve got no doubt in my mind after working with him that he can play at any top four side, no question. He’s a top player,” said the Hull manager.
“We had a dabble. I rang his brother (and agent, Chris) but there were some rather big clubs in for him.
“I think Spurs were in there, Arsenal as well, and one or two from Europe as well. He had a pick of a few clubs.”
