As a result of CONCACAF’s lower coefficient, the Mexican side will face a longer route to make it to the final on 20th December. In the quarter final they will play either Australian side West Sydney Wanderers or Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. They are the two Asian Champions League finalists, with the two legged decider scheduled for later this month. If they make it through they will face Champions League winners Real Madrid in the semi-final.
As the CONMEBOL entrants, San Lorenzo are automatically given a bye to the semi finals. They will play one of the CAF champions (either Congolese side AS Vita Club or Algerian side ES Setif, the two CAF Champions League finalists), the Oceania champions Auckland City, or the entrant from the host nation, Moghreb Tetouan.
