Remember these guys?
5. Esteban Granero
Was hailed as Real Madrid’s next superstar not so long ago, but a 2012 move to Queens Park Rangers did not help the attacking midfielder’s career at all. He is now a key player for Real Sociedad, but his reputation is not what it once was.
4. Valeri Bojinov
Football Manager nuts will be well aware of this guy, who looked set to become a world class striker when he arrived at Fiorentina in 2005. He joined Manchester City two years later and has never fully recovered. Bojinov is still only 28 years old, but he is currently slumming it in Italy’s Serie B with Ternana. Surely, he has one big move left in him?
3. Asamoah Gyan
Gyan has scored 43 goals in 84 senior international appearances for Ghana. He was rightly hailed as a brilliant signing when he arrived at Sunderland in 2010. He quickly became a hit with the Black Cats too, but big money tempted him to join Al Ain FC in Abu Dhabi and he has slipped off the radar as a result. His record in the UAE is very good, though – 83 goals in 67 games.
2. Domenico Criscito
Criscito is probably one of the best left-backs on the planet, but he rarely gets mentioned since he moved to Zenit in 2011. The 27-year-old has 22 senior Italy caps to his name.
1. Ibrahim Afellay
Dutch winger Afellay was chased by Liverpool and Arsenal earlier this decade, but he is currently on loan at Olympiacos from Barcelona. The former PSV star has been capped 45 times by the Netherlands and, at 28, there is plenty of time for him to resurrect his club career.
