Here is the best XI that Steven Gerrard has ever played with:
GK) Pepe Reina
Having joined Liverpool as a 22-year-old Reina made nearly 400 appearances for the club between 2005 and 2014.
He was arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world in his prime, which is why many Liverpool fans were so shocked when he was shipped out on loan to Napoli.
Still a superb shot-stopper to this day, Reina was not only known for his goalkeeping, but for his superb distribution.
DR) Steve Finnan
Fondly remembered for his instrumental role in Liveprool’s famous Champions League victory in 2005. Finnan made over 200 appearances in six years at Anfield, the Irishman recognised as one of the best right-backs in the league at the time.
DC) Jamie Carragher
Making a mammoth 737 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, Carragher is a true Merseyside legend.
Steven Gerrard branded him, “the best defender I’ve played with at Liverpool.” And after being so consistent for so many years it’s easy to see why.
He was at one point the holder of the most European appearances by a Brit, but was overtaken by Ryan Giggs.
DC) Sami Hyypia
Although coming nowhere close to Carragher, Hyypia still made a highly impressive 464 appearances for the club.
The combative centre-back was a rock in defence for the Premier League side before making the switch to the Bundesliga in 2009.
The Finland international was at the heart of an excellent Liverpool defence during his time there, and there was definitely a gap left when he eventually departed.
DL) John Arne Riise
The Norwegian became a cult hero in a very short space of time for Liverpool fans, his ability going forward rarely seen in full-backs at the time.
Scoring an impressive 31 goals in his 348 appearances, his left-foot was absolutely lethal from distance.
In seven years at Anfield he created some truly memorable moments for both Liverpool fans and the neutral.
CM) Dietmar Hamann
His substitute performance in Liverpool’s 2005 comeback in the Champions League final was a huge part of the side’s win. Not only did he score a crucial penalty in the shoot-out that followed, he later found out that he did so with a broken foot.
Having moved from Newcastle in 1999 he had seven fantastic years at Liverpool before finally moving to Manchester City in 2006.
CM) Xabi Alonso
Alonso quickly became a vital part of the Liverpool set-up after joining in 2004, a fact that was even more evident when he left for Real Madrid in 2009 and a gaping hole was left in the Merseyside midfield.
Making 210 appearances for the club, Alonso was another of Liverpool’s Champions League winners in 2005, scoring the equalising goal against AC Milan to send it to penalties.
CM) Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard has made his own all time Liverpool XI, and it’s hard to argue with the man really.
An unbelievable captain, leading by example and scoring in impressive 174 goals in 672 appearances from midfield.
As one of the best and most consistent long range shooters in the Premier League, Gerrard was, and still is, a constant threat to any team.
Although he hasn’t managed to lead Liverpool to a Premier League title just yet, he did inspire the 2005 Champions League win with a Man of the Match performance.
ST) Fernando Torres
After his £50m move to Chelsea Fernando Torres became one of the laughing stocks of the Premier League. It’s important to remember however, that before that he was one of the most prolific and accomplished strikers in the English game.
81 gaols in 142 appearances for the Reds, including an unbelievable 33 goals in his first season.
He may deserve some of the criticism he has received in recent years, but you certainly cannot fault him for his time at Liverpool.
ST) Robbie Fowler
In his two spells at Liverpool Fowler scored 183 goals from 369 appearances.
Unbelievably consistent, the Englishman scored over 30 goals in all competitions three seasons on the trot.
Certainly one of Liverpool’s all time greatest strikers, and still beloved by fans today.
ST) Luis Suarez
Arguably one of the greatest strikers in the world at the moment, he was absolutely prolific during his time at Anfield.
After making the switch from Ajax in what was seen as a somewhat risky £22.8m move, Liverpool will be pleased with not only the return of 82 goals in 133 appearances, but also with the profit they made from his £75m move to Barcelona.
