Daniel Sturridge and Mamadou Sakho have not travelled with the squad, and Brendan Rodgers will likely stick with a similar team to the one that started the Merseyside derby on Saturday:
GK) Simon Mignolet – There has been concern around Liverpool over the Belgian’s form in the last few weeks, and he will want a good performance to answer his critics.
RB) Javier Manquillo – The Spaniard looks set to continue at right back with Glen Johnson still out injured.
CB) Martin Skrtl – The tough Slovakian has reclaimed his place at the back from Mamadou Sakho, and now has the chance to cement his place in the team.
CB) Dejan Lovren – After some dodgy moments in the games against West Ham and Everton, Liverpool’s big money centre-back will need to be at his best against Basel dangerman Marco Streller.
LB) Alberto Moreno – The Spaniard has impressed down Liverpool’s left and will look to get forward tonight against a limited Basel side.
DMC) Steven Gerrard – Some fans have called for Liverpool’s captain to be dropped, but his European experience will be crucial for the team tonight.
CM) Jordan Henderson – As always, Henderson’s running will be important for linking defence and attack.
AMR) Adam Lallana – After an unfortunate early-season injury, looked to be beginning to find his best form again against Everton.
AML) Raheem Sterling – Liverpool’s key creative outlet, the envious eyes of Europe’s top clubs will be on the youngster again tonight.
AMC) Philippe Coutinho – Likely to return to the team in place of the disappointing Lazar Markovic. Must take this chance to force his way back into the first XI.
ST) Mario Balotelli – Scored in Liverpool’s first group game, and must play well again today if he is to retain his place, with Daniel Sturridge on the verge of fitness.
