Louis van Gaal has backed his assistant Ryan Giggs to succeed him as Manchester United manager, Goal.com reports.

The Welshman ended his 24 year long playing career to become van Gaal’s assistant manager at the Theatre of Dreams after temporarily taking charge of United’s final few games of last season following the sacking of David Moyes.
Now the Dutchman has paid tribute to Giggs at a special charity dinner in the former midfielder’s honour and has hailed the way in which the United legend has taken to coaching.
Van Gaal has even suggested that the hot seat at Old Trafford will belong to the 40-year-old when he steps down.
”I have thought that Ryan Giggs is a trainee but he isn’t a trainee, he is an exception,” said the former Barcelona boss.
”I have seen a lot of trainees and I am very happy with him because he has showed already that he can communicate with the group in front of him.
“I do know now I’ve ‘enticed’ [provoked] you. I learnt that word off Mr Ryan Giggs. But he is so modest, so normal, and you [Giggs] are a great star. No, no, no, you have to listen. Because he is the star of the evening and really deserves that and I am convinced that you are – how do you call it in English? – ‘Ok, this Van Gaal is over, he [Giggs] is the man!”
Manchester United have started the season slowly under Louis van Gaal, winning just two of their six games despite the near £150 million that the former Bayern Munich boss spent on new players during the summer.
