The Anfield side saw Luis Suarez move to Barcelona over the summer and boss Brendan Rodgers may feel that despite the signings of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli that his side is still short on goal-scoring options.
Liverpool will mount a £31.2m bid for the 26 year old Argentine international with reports in Italy suggesting that Higuain could be set for a move in January.
Rodgers is also keen on Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema but feels that a move for Higuain could prove far easier, not least as the Bernabeu star has only recently signed a new five year contract with the Spanish giants.
Higuain has scored goals wherever he has pitched up and could be tempted by a Premier League switch.
The lethal finisher netted 122 goals for Real Madrid in 264 appearances and has racked up 27 in 55 games since moving to Naples last summer.
Napoli’s inability to negotiate a path through the qualifying process to the Champions League group stages may well lead the Serie A side to have to consider decent offers for Higuain.
