Twelve players that could be moving on for free at the end of the season.
This summer saw some interesting free transfers zipping around the top flight, but they will be nothing compared to what could go down next summer should certain clubs not tie these stars down to new deals. There is an impressive list of stars that will be going begging next summer, and below are just 12 that your club could sign, or at least open talks with, from January.

12. Anderson – Manchester United
The Brazilian has fallen on hard times at Old Trafford over the past 18 months and looks set to move on at the end of the season. Many were left surprised that he didn’t make a swift exit this summer, but an unsuccessful loan spell last term with Fiorentina failed to get the potential suitors excited and he is now being linked with a move to India.
11. Younes Kaboul – Tottenham Hotspur
The Frenchman has been named as Tottenham’s skipper for the season, which suggests that the club would be looking to keep him on board. However, you can’t help but think that if they were serious about keeping hold of him they wouldn’t have let him deal get down to its final 12 months. Spurs already let him leave once, so a lot will likely depend on how he performs over the coming months.
10. Glen Johnson – Liverpool
At the start of the season Brendan Rodgers made sure that securing the England star’s future was one of his primary concerns. However, as the weeks have ticked by, and Johnson’s ever worsening performances coupled with his increasing age have meant that he could be heading for the exit doors come May.
9. Andrea Ranocchia – Inter Milan
The Italian international was being linked with a move to Chelsea before the end of last season, but a move failed to materialise. However, the Blues may do well to keep an eye on his situation as the current season passes by as he will be available for nothing soon. He would suit a club looking for a classy stopper to add some more defensive depth.
8. Stephan Lichtsteiner – Juventus
The Swiss international has been steadily making a name for himself as one of the most consistent right sided players in the Italian top flight over the past six years. There is still time to tie him down but at 30 years old he could be moved on in favour of a younger model. He would still be ideal for some big sides in England, though, and one lucky side could bag themselves an absolute steal.
7. Yevhen Konoplyanka – Dnipro
There will be several clubs rubbing their hands together for this one. Over the past nine months the Ukrainian international has been linked with everyone from Liverpool to Spurs to Man United to West Ham. He opted to stay put over the summer but circumstances in his native country could tempt him to get out of dodge and make his way to the Premier League.
6. Fabian Delph – Aston Villa
The Villa midfielder has been putting in strong performances consistently over the past year now and the rest of the country are finally starting to realise just how far he has come since his early days with Leeds. He wants to stay, but with the situation unclear at Villa Park a new contract could be in real danger of not actually being offered and one of England’s most exciting midfield talents could escape for free.
5. James Milner – Manchester City
Another England star that could be on his way this summer is the workmanlike James Milner. A player that was once so integral to his sides is now a utility man at City. He has started making noises about heading for an exit if he cannot get off the bench more and begin starting games, and could have the pick of the clubs should City be daft enough to let him walk away.
4. Klaas Jan Huntelaar – Schalke
The Dutchman may be 30 now but he is still banging in the goals when he gets on the pitch. There will be no shortage of clubs willing to take him away from the Bundesliga side, but they will have to bear in mind his awful injury record as he approaches the twilight of his career.
3. Nigel de Jong – AC Milan
The defensive bruiser is being chased again by clubs seemingly aware of his contract situation in the chic northern Italian city. Manchester United have shown an interest in bringing him back to the Premier League, though he has sounded out his bosses about staying where he is. Louis Van Gaal will be hoping to persuade him otherwise.
2. Giorgio Chiellini – Juventus
The Italian international likely won’t leave the club he’s been at for his entire career, but his contract is winding down dangerously low and someone looking for a top class centre-back can and will pounce to take him away from Serie A, especially if a potential suitor will pay up more than Juve will.
1. Sami Khedira – Real Madrid
The German international came close to leaving the La Liga giants this summer, but the club sought to keep hold of him after letting Angel Di Maria join Manchester United. However, they seem to think they can convince him to stay, but he is rumoured to be seeking a pre-agreement with another club in the Premier League. Only time will tell to see where he will end up.
