Now aged 26, the midfielder is being linked to Indian minnows Pune City by Goal India, in what could be a truly epic footballing fall from grace.
Anderson was shipped out on loan to Fiorentina in the second half of last season, and with no clubs wanting to sign the former international permanently during the summer, he’s languishing in the shadows under new United boss Louis van Gaal. He’s yet to make a Premier League appearance, and embarrassed himself during the League Cup battering at the hands of MK Dons – seemingly the final nail in his Red Devils career.
Pune City are interested in signing him on a short-term deal, having already secured David Trezeguet and Adrian Mutu. While these are household names, their proper professional careers are over, while Anderson’s should be in its peak.
CEO Gaurav Modwel reckons that his side are interested in Anderson as a playmaker, with former Barcelona and Chelsea ace Eidur Gudjohnsen mooted as the forward option.
“We need a striker and a playmarker,” Modwel claimed, although judging by Anderson’s recent performances, he’s hardly the most creative of central midfielders…
