The 21-year-old led the line for his country in the recent 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches against DR Congo and Ivory Coast, scoring three times across 2-0 and 4-1 victories.
He currently plays his club football for French side Lyon, and is yet to score in nine league appearances for the senior team. However, he has netted on ten occasions for Lyon B, who play in the fourth tier of French football.
According to reports in the Daily Mirror, he has two years left on his contract, but has a release clause of only £800,000 – meaning he would be comfortably available within the Gunners spending power.
Cameroon are hoping he will prove to a long term replacement for Eto’o, who retired from international duty after the 2014 World Cup having scored 56 goals in 118 games. The former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker, 33, recently joined Everton on a free transfer.
