SC Bastia striker Brandao has been banned for six months for headbutting Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta in the tunnel.
The incident occurred in the players’ tunnel at the end of a heated August 16th Ligue 1 fixture between the teams.
Brandao filmed waiting for Motta to emerge. The 34 year-old forward then instigated contact with the PSG star with his forehead, before scarpering away to his own team’s dressing room – prompting a mob of angry players to form outside the door.
The LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) have now reacted with a hefty ban, and released the below statement.
“After hearing players Thiago Motta and Brandao accompanied by representatives of both clubs, the Commission imposes a six-month suspension on Brandao for his actions towards Thiago Motta.
“Brandao will be qualified to play again from February 22, 2015.”
