It could keep him out for three months, and with important Champions League and domestic fixtures coming up, Arsene Wenger will have to shuffle his pack.

He has more enjoyable problems further up the field, with Jack Wilshere playing excellently and surely demanding a starting spot among the plethora of attacking midfielders.

Here’s how the Gunners could line up as a result, fielding a 4-3-3 formation.

GK) Wojciech Szczesny

The Pole is the no.1 ahead of David Ospina.

DR) Calum Chambers

The young Englishman will almost certainly fill the void left by Debuchy.

DL) Nacho Monreal

Monreal has done well during Kieran Gibbs’ absence, and it’s unlikely he’ll be dropped even when the Englishman returns.

DC) Per Mertesacker

The giant German provides a consitently strong aerial presence alongside his French partner.

DC) Laurent Koscielny

Arsenal’s best defender, and one of the very best in the entire Premier League.

DMC) Mikel Arteta

The club captain will likely be favoured ahead of Mathieu Flamini when he is 100% fit.

MC) Aaron Ramsey

Ramsey demands a starting spot following last season’s heroics.

MC) Jack Wilshere

In a midfield three, Wishere has the platform from which he can get forward and create, scoring goals like the one he notched against Manchester City.

AMR) Alexis Sanchez

The superstar Chilean is one of the world’s most dangerous attackers, and will always be selected in a strongest XI.

AML) Mesut Ozil

Ozil is at genuine risk of being dropped should he continue in the poor vein of form in which he’s started the season, with Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain breathing down his neck.

FC) Danny Welbeck

With Olivier Giroud out until Christmas, Welbeck will be expected to lead the Arsenal line.
