Arsenal’s lack of defensive depth could be exposed following Mathieu Debuchy’s worrying injury against Manchester City on Saturday, which is likely to keep him out for a sustained period of time.

Debuchy was taken off on a stretcher in the closing stages of the 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium, suffering a badly sprained ankle which will require more testing. It is not yet known how long he will be out.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that Debuchy’s injury ‘doesn’t look good’, and the Gunners could now regret not signing defensive reinforcements during the window.
With Kieran Gibbs already sidelined, 19-year-old Calum Chambers provides his club’s only senior defensive cover, and will likely slot in alongside Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal for the Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
Debuchy joined Arsenal in the summer as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who left to play for City, and had impressed with his performances so far in North London, meaning his injury will come as a huge blow to Wenger and co.
Martin Demichelis rescued a point for the visitors during the game itself, after Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez had struck for the hosts and cancelled out Sergio Aguero’s opener.
