The former Fiorentina star now looks a serious doubt for City’s game against Arsenal this weekend, leaving Manuel Pellergrini with just two senior strikers to choose from upfront in Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.

Jovetic missed much of last season through injury, but started in fine form this term with two goals in his side’s recent 3-1 home win over Liverpool.

However, he could now be out again and deal a major blow to City after picking up a hamstring injury, which has seen him return early to Manchester and drop out of Montenegro’s game against Moldova.

With Alvaro Negredo moving on loan to La Liga side Valencia, City will be cursing their luck as they look short of options in attack, though Aguero and Dzeko remain two of the best forward players in the Premier League at the moment and should do a good enough job for the champions on their own.
