Although Loic Remy would arguably have been an ideal signing for Arsenal in their current situation, the Frenchman has instead made the move to Chelsea in the final 24 hours of the transfer window. With Arsene Wenger in need of more options in attack after a woeful display from youngster Yaya Sanogo in yesterday’s draw against Leicester City, here are five realistic targets that may be worth considering on deadline day…
5) Carlos Bacca (Sevilla)
One of La Liga’s top strikers last season, Carlos Bacca of Sevilla is the latest name to be linked as a possible solution for Arsenal’s problems upfront. The prolific Colombian international has also attracted some interest from Liverpool, Everton and Inter Milan this summer, and would certainly make a decent addition to this Gunners squad as they look desperately short of options upfront following Olivier Giroud’s injury.

4) Wilfried Bony (Swansea City)
Valued at around £19m, Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony could be another bargain signing by Arsenal if they step up their interest in the player. The Ivory Coast international was in fine goalscoring form for the Swans in his first season in the Premier League last term, and his ability has not gone unnoticed by Arsene Wenger, while other big names such as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for him at various points this summer.
3) Mattia Destro (AS Roma)
Another name that keeps popping up this summer is that of AS Roma striker Mattia Destro, who ended last season in highly impressive form with 13 goals in just 20 appearances to announce himself in Rudi Garcia’s first-team. Arsenal could certainly benefit from the superb goalscoring instincts of the 23-year-old, who has also been linked with Chelsea in recent times. Still, with the Blues opting to sign Remy from Queens Park Rangers instead, Destro will now surely be available for Arsenal to swoop in for? At just £20m, the Italian international looks like he could be another astute purchase by the club.
2) Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
A player who could make a useful signing on loan, Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has also been linked with Arsenal in recent times after it has emerged that the Red Devils are ready to let him leave this summer. Although he may cost around £5m to sign for the season, there may not be many more options left for the Gunners as they leave it late in their search for a new addition upfront. Tottenham are also known to be interested, and may still be the favourites to win the race for his signature on deadline day.
1) Alvaro Negredo (Manchester City)
Alvaro Negredo is widely believed to be available going into the final hours of the transfer window, with Real Madrid among those thought to be chasing the Manchester City backup player. However, with recent developments suggesting that the Spanish giants have instead made a loan offer for Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, it could be that Negredo will be available, and would certainly be a player worth considering for Arsenal. The experienced Spaniard had a promising first season in English football last term and looks to have all the attributes to fill in for the injured Giroud for the next few months – and with arguably better finishing ability.
