Kagawa arrived at United from Bundesliga outfit Dortmund in 2012 but has endured a frustrating time in Manchester, making just 38 Premier League appearances over the course of his two seasons at Old Trafford.
With the arrival of Angel di Maria seemingly putting another attacking midfielder between Kagawa and the Old Trafford first team, however, it seems as though Klopp and Dortmund have chosen their moment to try and lure the player back to Signal Iduna Park.
Kagawa scored 21 goals in 49 games for Dortmund after his arrival from Cerezo Osaka, becoming a key player in his club’s ascent to the summit of European football before leaving for United.
Klopp is known to be a keen admirer of the player and bringing him back to Dortmund would represent a huge statement of intent, with Klopp and his side having received a significant blow following a frustrating 2-0 opening day defeat against Bayer Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park.
