Tottenham Midfielder Could Be On His Way To Hamburg

Lewis Holtby looks set to be on his way out of White Hart Lane…

It looks like Lewis Holtby’s short and relatively uneventful Tottenham career is drawing to its close, reports Sky Sports News.

The 23-year-old has made one substitute appearance so far in the Premier League under new boss Mauricio Pochettino, but was heavily involved in pre-season, and there were rumours that he could become an important part of the Argentine manager’s plans.

However, Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorf has told German press, “I’d be lying if I said we have nothing to do with Holtby,” and it could well be that the former German Under-21 captain could be back on his way to the Bundesliga.

No official bid has been made, but the comments indicate a potential transfer could develop with one week of the window remaining.

Holtby has three years left on his Spurs contract, having arrived in January 2013. He fell out of favour though, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, where he managed to score one Premier League goal in 13 games.

He’s won three caps for Germany, but hasn’t looked like being part of the World Cup winner’s setup since his move to England, and a chance to reignite his career in the Bundesliga could appeal to the player.
