The injury sustained by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud against Everton last weekend has left the club with something of a dilemma regarding their strike force.

Daily Mail reports claim the Frenchman could be out for as much as three months, and this has left his manager, Arsene Wenger, torn over the best course of action – with multiple approaches to the problem having been suggested by the press.

It is possible that Wenger will stick with what he has, having already spent big this summer on Alexis Sanchez. The former Barcelona man will be used to plug the gap, along with Yaya Sanogo and Lukas Podolski.

Alternatively, he could sign a stop-gap player –  a short-term solution who could fill in – or he could bring in another marquee player, which Arsenal certainly have the finances to do, and let Giroud fight for his place in the team when he returns.

Here are five potential forward candidates if he does decide to spend:

Danny Welbeck

Seemingly on his way out of Manchester United, the England international will be available in a fairly cheap deal, and would no doubt relish the opportunity to prove himself at another top club. Has been linked by The Guardian.

Loic Remy

After the disappointment of seeing his move to Liverpool collapse, the Frenchman would undoubtedly jump at the chance for a move to another of the teams fighting for the Premier League title. He has been open about his desire to play Champions League football, and would cost the Gunners just £8.5m. He has also been linked by The Guardian.

Jackson Martinez

Martinez was linked heavily with Arsenal earlier in the transfer window – including in reports from the Daily Mirror. The speculation when quiet after Arsenal signed Sanchez, but could yet resurface if the Gunners choose to enter the market once more. The Colombian has an excellent scoring record for Porto, and could prove an excellent signing.

Mattia Destro

The Roma man has been linked with Chelsea as part of a deal sending Fernando Torres in the opposite direction, but with the Blues having seemingly cooled their interest in such a switch, the Gunners could be lured into making a bid for a player who first caught their attention last season, according to reports in the Daily Express.

Edinson Cavani

Having been linked with virtually every big club in Europe, it should come as little surprise that the name Cavani is also being talked of in the same sentence as striker-hunting Arsenal. The move remains little more than speculation at this point, but the Metro believe that Arsene Wenger could yet attempt to take the Uruguayan to North London.
