Manchester United look set to allow a second fringe player to join Sporting Lisbon in the last 48 hours, with midfielder Anderson set to join Nani in moving to the club, with the Express reporting that a £5.5 million deal is close to completion.
The Brazilian midfielder’s return to Portugal would conclude a sorry period for the player, with the initial potential that he showed following a big move from Sporting’s domestic rivals FC Porto seemingly having evaporated.
Anderson has not really been in the thinking at Old Trafford for some months, with former manager David Moyes having allowed him to departe on loan to Fiorentina at the end of last season, with the 26 year-old also failing to impress in Serie A.
Anderson will be hoping that a return to the Portuguese Premier League will help to refind the form that made him such a sought after young player during his time with Gremio and FC Porto, persuading Sir Alex Ferguson to part with around £20m to seal his services back in 2007.
With United also having completed the signing of defender Marcos Rojo from the Portuguese club, business between the Red Devils and Sporting has been rife this summer – with winger Nani arriving at his former club on a season-long loan deal.
