Gunners close to finalising superb transfer business.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is close to finalising deals for three more new signings before the end of the summer transfer window, according to various sources.
The Gunners have spent big so far on bringing in the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers, all of whom made their Premier League debuts in the team’s opening day win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, and Wenger is now playing it smart in the transfer market with three quality signings coming in on the cheap.
Although Arsenal have added real quality to their side with Sanchez in particular, they still lack depth in most areas of the pitch, and Wenger has managed to find a bargain signing in central defence, central midfield and attack to enhance his squad depth for the challenging new season ahead.
3) Kostas Manolas (Olympiacos)
For a fee of just £8m, Arsenal could be about to bring in Olympiacos defender Kostas Manolas as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen. The Greek international has been one of his side’s most impressive performers in recent times, attracting interest from the likes of Juventus. Still only 23 years of age, the commanding centre-back should be a useful long-term signing for the Gunners and add real depth to their current options at the back.
2) Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain)
Into the final year of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, Adrien Rabiot has held talks with Arsenal and could be snapped up for as little as £5.5m, according to reports. The French champions rate the 19-year-old highly as one of the most impressive youngsters in the country at the moment, but they have failed to persuade him to sign a new contract at the club due to the immense competition for places in midfield. Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with him this summer, but it looks as though Arsene Wenger has persuaded the youngster to move to the Emirates Stadium after holding personal talks with the player.
1) Eduardo Vargas (Napoli)
A somewhat surprise target given his relatively poor goalscoring record, but Arsenal could land themselves another bargain here with the £10m signing of Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas. The Chilean was recommended to the club by new signing Alexis Sanchez, and the two have combined well together at international level. Although Vargas would likely only be a backup player, he could prove a good one for a very reasonable price. Valencia are also interested in him, having taken the 24-year-old on loan for the second half of last season, but it currently looks like Arsenal are winning the race for his signature.
