Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains determined to sign a world class striker this summer, report the Mirror, with Ligue 1 duo Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao still high on the Northern Irishman’s wishlist.
Both South American superstars have been linked with moves to Anfield this summer, although the deals hit hitches for differing reasons.
Falcao has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid and is holding out for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, despite being unhappy with life at AS Monaco – although the report suggests that Real have in interest in shelling out for Falcao having already signed teammate James Rodriguez this summer.
This could allow Liverpool to bide their time until the closing days of the transfer window, when it will be clear to the Colombian that his dream move to the Bernabeu may not be an option.
Whilst the report suggests that Falcao is very much Rodgers’ first choice, however, it also says that he will turn his attentions towards Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani if no movement is forthcoming, despite the Uruguayan seemingly having been placated and being willing to stay at the Parc des Princes.
Either way, Rodgers is determined to sign a world class replacement for Luis Suarez:
“The money is there – and we will look to improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window.”
“It’s not easy to get a top level striker, no. But we have to keep looking. We certainly need something, because we haven’t brought in another striker so far, apart from Rickie Lambert.”
With Liverpool kicking off their 2014/15 Premier League season against Southampton on Sunday lunchtime, the clock is ticking for Rodgers, but he seems keen to ensure that only the highest quality is considered for a place in the Anfield line-up.
