Anfield side look to land ninth, and last, high-profile signing of the summer.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been given the go ahead to push on with efforts to land a fresh striking addition and will turn his attentions to Fiorentina forward Giuseppe Rossi.
The Anfield boss has been keeping tabs on the United States born Italian international for some weeks and is ready to launch an €25m (£20m) bid for the 27 year old hot-shot.
Rossi moved to Florence last summer and has proven a phenomenal success, scoring 16 goals in 21 Serie A appearances, but the club’s failure to secure a Champions League berth could lead them to losing a number of their top talents.

Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado is one such talent, with the World Cup star strongly linked with interest from both Barcelona and Man United.
Rossi is of course a former Man United player, though he managed just one Premier League start for the Old Trafford side, though the predatory finisher has been prolific elsewhere.
The speedy striker netted 82 goals in five season with Villarreal before moving to Italy where he has found the back of the net similarly easy to find.
The Fiorentina man was surprisingly left out of Cesare Prandelli’s 2014 World Cup finals squad after a superb season and may feel that a high-profile move would aid his push for a more prominent role at national team level.
Rossi’s tally of Serie A goals included a stunning hat-trick against giants Juventus and Rodgers feel that the inclusion of the Italian as part of his other striking options, Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert, will go some way to filling the void left by Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona.
Brendan Rodgers has already brought in a host of summer signings with Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, German wonderkid Emre Can, Benfica winger Lazar Markovic, Belgian Divock Origi and loaned in Atletico Madrid full-back Javier Manquillo set to be joined by Sevilla youngster Alberto Moreno and the Liverpool boss will look to Rossi to be his ninth, and final, signing of what has already proven a very busy summer.
