A host of Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United have missed out on the signing of Mathieu Valbuena, who has joined Dynamo Moscow, according to the Daily Mail.
The French playmaker has spent the majority of his career in Ligue 1 with Marseille, but has now made the move to the Russian capital for a fee of around £7m, turning down rumoured advances from English teams.
The 29-year-old has been a star of French football, both at club level and for the national side, and will make an exciting purchase for Dynamo, though it will be something of a blow for the likes of Arsenal to miss out on this top talent.
A number of big names have made the move to Russian sides in recent years, with Brazilian forward Hulk perhaps the most high profile when he signed for Zenit Saint Petersburg after impressing at Portuguese giants Porto.
Valbuena certainly looks like something of a bargain for just £7m, and club president Boris Rotenberg could not hide his delight at the deal, describing it as a “very important” signing that could take the club “to a new level”.
