Despite not being known for his modest opinion on his own ability, you would’ve been forgiven for thinking that being released on a free transfer this summer may have knocked some sense into striker Nicklas Bendtner.
It appears not, however – with the Metro reporting that the Denmark international has rejected a £57,000 per week three-year deal at Eintracht Frankfurt, that would’ve made him the highest paid player in the Bundesliga club’s history.
Bendtner showed some early promise with the Gunners and during a loan spell at Birmingham City, but controversy began to surround the Dane due to incidents such as flouting advertising rules with his underwear at Euro 2012.
He also moved to Juventus and Sunderland on loan deals, but with his stock continuing to drop it seems surprising that he has dismissed Frankfurt’s offer of redemption in Germany.
The deal that Bendtner is reported to have turned down would’ve earned him £9 million over a three-year deal, an eye-watering figure for a player who has failed to live up to the high standards that he seems to set for himself.
