The ten clubs with the highest average attendances of the previous season.
Some will have you believe that attendances have been shrinking lately, though with the help of Football Economy we have been able to find out which ten clubs have seen their average attendances rise over the past year.
10. Hamburg
League: Bundesliga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 51,825
The German strugglers actually saw their attendances fall last season thanks to their rotten form, but the club’s support still managed to rally together in order to see the side maintain their top flight status for the new campaign.
9. Hertha Berlin
League: Bundesliga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 51,890
The club saw attendances rise dramatically with their return to the Bundesliga last term, and they will be hoping to grow those numbers further with another impressive showing.
8. Borussia Monchengladbach
League: Bundesliga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 52,240
Another German representative showing just what a good year it was for the nation’s football teams. Borussia’s re-emergence as a major force in the Bundesliga has not gone unnoticed, though they may struggle this term having sold some of their brightest talents.
7. Arsenal
League: Premier League
Average Attendance 2013/14: 60,015
The club seldom struggle to sell out at the Emirates, and with a few more new signings in the bag this summer the Gunners may be looking a full houses for a long time indeed.
6. Schalke
League: Bundesliga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 61,570
Schalke’s numbers were likely boosted by their involvement in the Champions League last term that saw them come up against the likes of Real Madrid in the group stage. Young stars like Julian Draxler lighting their way can’t hurt either.
5. Bayern Munich
League: Bundesliga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 71,000
There is quite a jump from Schalke’s numbers and Bayerns, but you would be hard pressed to find somebody that didn’t want to go and see Bayern in action as they marched on to another success in 2013/14.
4. Real Madrid
League: La Liga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 71,565
Madrid have always enjoyed a strong support, and now that they have one of the most exciting attacking front lines in the game fans have been flocking out to catch them while they can.
3. Barcelona
League: La Liga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 72,115
The Nou Camp is often viewed as the ultimate cathedral of football, and though they suffered a disappointing campaign this time around that didn’t stop the Cules from turning out en masse.
2. Manchester United
League: Premier League
Average Attendance 2013/14: 75,205
The Red Devils fans stuck by David Moyes for as long as they could, and the numbers reflect that. However, with Louis Van Gaal in charge now and set to bring in a number of top stars with him, there will unlikely be an empty seat in the house for some time.
1. Borussia Dortmund
League: Bundesliga
Average Attendance 2013/14: 80,295
The Westfalenstadion’s ‘yellow wall’ is an impressive sight to behold and the club’s low ticket prices ensure that it is frequently packed to the rafters. Having an exciting young squad doesn’t hurt either and Dortmund’s place at the top of this list is unlikely to fall any time soon.
