Manchester United’s summer in the transfer market has largely been defined by players arriving at Old Trafford rather than leaving, but according to French newspaper Mercato, goalkeeper Anders Lindergaard could be leaving the club for Ligue 1 club SC Bastia.
The Corsicans are in need of a new goalkeeper and hopeful of building on a fine 2013/14 season that saw them secure a comfortable position in mid-table and also gave them the joy of relegating fierce island rivals AC Ajaccio.
Lindegaard arrived at Old Trafford in 2010 from Danish club Aalesund, but he has largely been used as cover for David de Gea during his time at the club, rarely threatening to establish himself as a genuine first choice ‘keeper.
With the offer of first team football in Ligue 1 with Bastia would be enough to tempt him away from Manchester remains to be seen, but it could offer an opportunity for one of United’s two young English goalkeeper, Ben Amos and Sam Johnstone, to establish themselves as De Gea’s primary cover.
Both Amos and Johnstone are England youth internationals who are highly rated but have struggled for first team appearances at their parent club, largely making their first steps in the game in loan spells at Football League clubs where they have consistently impressed.
