Arsenal Prepare Bid For £7.5m Injured World Cup Absentee

Gunners boss targets another Frenchman.

Arsenal are readying a bid for Lyon attacking midfielder Clement Grenier, according to The Metro.

The 23-year-old, who scored four goals and provided five assists in Ligue 1 last season, is valued at around £7.5m.

His impressive form for Lyon earned him a call-up to France’s World Cup squad this summer, but he suffered a thigh injury and was replaced by Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, who is also rumoured to be in Arsenal’s thoughts.

Grenier is still nursing his poorly thigh and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keeping a keen eye on his recovery.

Wenger hopes that Grenier will be fit to start the new Premier League season at the Emirates Stadium.

FA Cup winners Arsenal begin their domestic campaign at Wembley on Sunday August 10 in the Community Shield against Premier League champions Manchester City.

They open their league account the following weekend with a home London derby against Crystal Palace, which is followed by trips to Everton and Leicester City.

Grenier has been capped five times by France at senior international level, having made his debut in 2013.

He has been on Lyon’s books since 2002, but he has just two years left to run on his current contract.
