The 20-year-old has become hot property this season thanks to his 21 goals in the Belgian Jupiler League, where he caught Arsene Wenger’s eye with a series of impressive displays.
And although there has been strong interest from Arsenal – Batshuayi’s boyhood club – and Tottenham, it is understood Marseille are on the verge of sealing a deal for the young Belgian forward.
Sources in Belgium claim that his move to the south coast club is all but completed and the striker has travelled to the city in order to iron out a few minor details.
Batshuayi later confirmed this by taking to Twitter to deliver a farewell message to his fans.
“Dear tweeters, I will soon announce a new high. Thank you for your support,” he tweeted.
His decision to join Marseille will come as a surprise to many after promising to wait for a switch to Arsenal to materialise earlier in the year, following his revelation that north London would be his preferred destination.
