Honest Three Word Assessment of Each Member of England’s World Cup Squad

How the members of the England team performed in three words.

With England already out of the tournament before their final game against Costa Rica on Tuesday, questions must be asked of Roy Hodgson and whether his choice in personnel was correct.

When placed in a tough group alongside the likes of Italy and Uruguay, Hodgson went for young and hungry as opposed to experienced and wily, when a more balanced blend of the two would have been more ideal.

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom (just mostly doom) as England displayed some moments of genuine brilliance that will give fans a reason to cheer in the future, but with that in mind here are the assessments of every player that got on the pitch in three words.

Joe Hart: Needs thicker arms

Glen Johnson: Inconsistent as always

Leighton Baines: Not Ashley Cole

Phil Jagielka: There by default

Gary Cahill: Best we’ve got

Raheem Sterling: Genuinely exciting talent.

Jack Wilshire: No point, really

Jordan Henderson: Not a natural

Steven Gerrard: What happened, Stevie?

Adam Lallana: Appeared largely ineffectual

Ross Barkley: Raw but exciting

Daniel Sturridge: Future England great

Danny Welbeck: Not at best

Wayne Rooney: Off the mark

Rickie Lambert: Far too late
