Scholes may have been well into his mid-30s, but he was still the best player on the pitch on most occasions. He retired once, then came back to show that he was still a top level performer, and when you consider that Ryan Giggs continued into his 40s, Scholes most certainly could have followed suit to stay on at Old Trafford and ease the transition from the old guard to the new.
