Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea in fight for in-demand stopper.
Tottenham Hotspur have joined the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in planning a summer swoop for Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to the Daily Mail.
The 23-year-old has only played one full season in the first team at the City Ground, but such have been his performances that he has attracted plenty of attention from the country’s top clubs.
Darlow spent his early career at Aston Villa but moved to Nottingham Forest in 2010 and has also performed for both Newport County and Walsall on loan.
He is seen as one of the hottest goalkeeping prospects in the country, although if he were to sign for Spurs, Liverpool or Chelsea he would certainly not be the number one choice. In fact, he would most likely be third choice at any of those clubs.
According to the bookmakers it is Chelsea who are the odds-on favourites to capture Darlow this summer. However, they are the side that seem to have the most options in goal with Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois both contracted to the club.
Tottenham are thought to be looking for a replacement for reserve keeper Brad Friedel, although the American has just signed a one-year extension to his contract. They are also trying hard to keep hold of their number one choice, Hugo Lloris, who is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain.
It is yet to be seen which of the top sides will be first to make a move for Darlow, but whatever happens, he is unlikely to be performing regularly in the Premier League next season.
