Champions League winners hope to pip rivals in race for prolific forward.
Real Madrid are the latest club to show an interest in Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic and will rival Premier League pair Chelsea and Arsenal for his signature this summer, reports talkSPORT.
The Croatian, who will lead the line for his country at this summer’s World Cup, has stated that he is likely to leave current club Bayern Munich this summer. This has alerted the interests of many of the top cubs in Europe as his goal scoring record for the German champions has been fantastic since joining the Bavarians in 2012.
The 28-year-old still managed to score a thoroughly impressive 18 goals in the Bundesliga last season, despite only making 21 starts.
Madrid are likely to let their second choice centre-forward, Alvaro Morata, depart this summer, leaving them with only Karim Benzema who fills the traditional role up front. Mandzukic would be seen as an excellent alternative in attack and his presence would allow the Champions League winners to rotate their strikers more regularly.
Arsenal and Chelsea are also looking to strengthen their forward options this summer as they are also short of depth up front. However, when Real Madrid show an interest in a player, they usually come out on top in any bidding war and subsequent negotiations.
