Vela is heading back to the Emirates.
Real Sociedad club president Jokin Aperribay has confirmed that Arsenal are to re-sign forward Carlos Vela this summer.
The Gunners sold the Mexican to the Spanish club in 2012, but due to a clause written into his contract can bring back the forward for just £3.2m.
After scoring 16 La Liga goals in 2013/14 and providing 12 assists this would be a relative bargain for Vela and Aperribay has revealed that the transfer will go ahead.
“Arsenal have informed us that Vela would be with them next season,” the Sociedad president told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
Arsene Wenger originally signed Vela back in 2006 from Mexican side Guadalajara, but the 25-year-old failed to establish himself in the first team and went on five loan spells away from the Emirates Stadium.
The last of those came in 2011/12, when Sociedad took the attacker on a temporary deal before making the move permanent 12 months later.
In his three years at the Anoeta Stadium Vela has helped the club back to the Champions League in 2013 against the odds and has also been in prolific form in front of goal.
This is what has drawn Wenger back to the Mexico international, as the 64-year-old looks to bolster his side’s attack over the summer.
The Frenchman admitted that he relied too heavily on Olivier Giroud last term and although Vela isn’t generally considered a No.9, he can play on either flank and centrally when required.
