Pessimistic English fans need not hide for the next few weeks according to a special report.
Not only will England make it out of Group D this World Cup, but they will be the last ones left standing after the final – at least according to a detailed report by Deutsche Bank.
The well-known investment group has bucked the trend other pundits have for the English, with most saying they will struggle to get out of their Group – much less win the biggest prize in sport.
Deutsche Bank’s key reason for such a glowing endorsement is based largely down to the number of Liverpool players picked in the side.
“We adopt a quantitative model for predicting the 2014 football World Cup winner, and then apply some well reasoned arguments to find the likely winner.
“Thanks to [the] large presence of Liverpool players in the squad, England comes out as our predicted winner,” the report said.
“England are among the best teams according to our static model. The history of World Cup winning runs suggest that England is among the teams that could win this World Cup.
“Within this group of teams, England is the only one that has won a World Cup and not reached another final. And the last time England had so many Liverpool players in the team, it won. Therefore, we are confident that England will win this World Cup.”
While Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge all performed well enough to get Liverpool to the cusp of the Premier League title this season, the fact they fell at the last hurdle does not appear to count in the report.
Also not mentioned is the fact that Liverpool’s best player, Luis Suarez, will be an opponent to the English in Group D when he lines up for Uruguay – presuming he recovers from his injury in time.
Deutsche Bank, who, as a result of this report amazingly tipped against their countrymen, also flew in the face of other investment banks such as Goldman Sachs and PwC who both side England will not make it out of the Group stages.
Fans will get their first chance to see if any of the reports are on the money when England play their first game for the tournament against Italy at Arena Amazonia, Manaus on Saturday June 14.
