21-year-old World Cup star refuses to be drawn on transfer speculation.
Brazil forward Bernard, who has been linked with a move to FA Cup winners Arsenal, has refused to comment on his future till after this summer’s World Cup, reports The Sport Review.
The 21-year-old currently plays for Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk having signed for the club from Atletico Mineiro last summer. However, he has consistently been linked with a move away from the club since then, speculation that has intensified since the revoluton in the country this year.
Arsenal, alongside their local rivals Tottenham, are thought to be harbouring interest in the attacker who will be performing for Brazil at the World Cup. However, the youngster is refusing to add fuel to the fire of these reports, stating that he is only concerned with playing for his country at the moment.
Bernard told Superesportes: “I made it clear since I arrived [to join the national team] that I won’t comment about the possibility of a transfer as I am focused on the World Cup.
“It’s a unique moment in the career of a player, I want to mature and learn a lot here with my more experienced team-mates.
“I leave my off the field situation to be handled by those who have the right to do so without me.
“I don’t know [what will happen] after the World Cup, I have people to handle the off the field things.”
Whilst not suggesting a transfer was afoot, Bernard has certainly not committed his future to current side Shakhtar. He will, though, be an expensive purchase for any side interested in his signature after the Ukrainians splashed £30 million on him just last summer.
Bernard is not expected to be a major player for Brazil during the World Cup having played just 10 minutes of their warm-up matches against Serbia and Panama. He is, however, likely to have a bright future with the national team having accrued 10 caps already at the tender age of 21.
