Chelsea full-back not wanted by Ligue 1 side.
Ashley Cole had been tipped to join Ligue 1 side AS Monaco this summer, but the principality club has turned down the chance to bring in the former England international, according to talkSPORT.
The left-back is still under contract at Chelsea, but only until the end of June when he is expected to sign for a new team. Monaco were widely expected to be that team, but after a change of management they appear to be no longer interested.
New coach Leonardo Jardim is said to be much less keen on signing Cole than his predecessor Claudio Ranieri was. Whilst Ranieri left Chelsea before Cole arrived at the club, he was more aware of his talents thanks to his time spent in English football.
The bookmakers have still not ruled out a move to Monaco for the 33-year-old, but they now make a switch to the MLS his most likely destination. Recently-formed outfit New York City FC are trying to make a splash in the division with big name signings such as David Villa whose transfer has already been confirmed. They are one of a number of clubs that are potential destinations for the man who has 107 caps for his country.
With a desire to carry on playing and at just 33-years-old, Cole will not be short of options at home and abroad as he searches for a new club.
