Gunners interested in England international defender.
Arsenal have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Cardiff City’s England international Steven Caulker, alongside a host of other Premier League outfits, according to the Daily Mail.
The central defender may have suffered relegation in his first season with the Welsh club, but he is attracting the attention of plenty of sides in the top flight. The likes of Swansea, Liverpool and his former side Tottenham have all shown an interest in the 22-year-old who appeared in every league game for Cardiff last season.
Arsene Wenger is thought to want to add defensive cover to his squad with Thomas Vermaelen looking likely to leave The Emirates Stadium this summer. A back-up role to first choice pairing Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker may not suit Caulker, though, who left Tottenham for Cardiff in order to secure more playing time.
Wenger has already spoken with Cardiff this summer over a move for goalkeeper David Marshall who he would also like to bring to North London. The Scotland international impressed for Cardiff in his debut season in the Premier League and Wenger would like him to offer competition to Wojciech Szczesny after Lukasz Fabianksi left the club for Swansea City earlier this summer.
Cardiff would ideally like to keep hold of both players and would only let them go for a hefty fee. They paid £8 million for Caulker just last year and with plenty of competition for his signature, they would likely want to receive more than that were he to depart during this transfer window.
