QPR open talks for out-of-contract Lyon striker.
Queens Park Rangers have opened talks with French striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who is set to be a free agent this summer after allowing his contract with Lyon to expire, the Daily Mirror reports.
The newly-promoted side are preparing for life in the Premier League next season, and are prioritising a move for a new striker as current star Loic Remy looks increasingly likely to make a summer exit from Loftus Road to either Arsenal or Liverpool.
Gomis has been linked with several English sides in the past, and is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League after spending his entire career so far in his native France.
The 28-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions for Lyon this season, but will now be embarking upon a new challenge after allowing his contract with the club to run down.
With his prolific record and experience at the top level, his signing would represent a major coup for QPR and manager Harry Redknapp as they look to cement themselves as a top flight side after investing heavily in the transfer market in recent years.
Newcastle United, Sunderland and Swansea City are also mentioned as admirers of Gomis, but it is believed that negotiations have already begun for the player to join QPR.
