The former Mexico international has just enjoyed an excellent campaign in front of goal in La Liga with the Basque outfit, who he moved to from the north London club in a deal worth just £2.5m in July 2012.
However, as part of that deal the Gunners asked for a buy-back clause to be inserted in Vela’s Sociedad contract which would give the Premier League giants the first option to re-sign the 25-year-old for just £3.3m when this summer’s transfer window reopens for business.
And Vela, who registered an impressive 21 goals and 13 assists in total in his 52 matches in all competitions for Sociedad in the previous campaign, says that Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger would be making a big mistake were he not to take up that option for next season.
“It makes sense they will activate the clause now. A club that sees that a player is performing well for three years and has the chance of having him back for just an extra million,” said Vela.
“If Arsenal wouldn’t pay that amount they wouldn’t be very intelligent. If we put ourselves in their position we will do the same.
“Now, we have to analyse what can be done and how it can be done. And after putting everything in order, we will make a decision about my future; trying to choose the best way to be happy.”
