The experienced Netherlands national team coach was finally officially confirmed in the role at Old Trafford on Monday afternoon, with Van Gaal agreeing to put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club.
And even though the Dutchman will not actually start work with the Red Devils until after the conclusion to the World Cup in July, the 62-year-old has already been working hard preparing a list of possible transfer targets that he wants United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to start going after as soon as possible.
On that list is believed to contain the names of William Carvalho, Thomas Muller, Marco Reus, Luke Shaw, Toni Kroos, Kevin Strootman, Mats Hummels and Edinson Cavani, with United said to be armed with a massive £150m transfer war chest this summer by the Glazer family in order to pursue those big-money players.
